NEC has signed a contract to build a new submarine fiber optic cable connection to Hong Kong Indonesia. The Asia Submarine Cable Network (SCAN) is the combination of the Indonesian capital Jakarta and the second largest city of Surabaya to Hong Kong and from there to other cable networks. The 4300-kilometer cable system, an initial transmission of 40 Gbit / s with upgrades to 1.92 Tbps, NEC said. There will also be built with three branching units of length, for possible future expansion to other ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries. The cable is Fangbian Iskan Corporindo Media and Tele-Pacific region. NEC work is expected to start in the first half of this year and completed by 2011.
