Taipei mayor to visit Deaflympics promotion in Hong KongTaipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin is a departure for Hong Kong Friday to promote 21st Summer Deaflympics Taipei 2009, a games organizers said Wednesday.

Hau is still on the same day with Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and an international press conference at Taipei Deaflympics the following day, said Emile Sheng Chih-jen, CEO of Taipei Deaflympics Organizing Committee.

It is the first meeting between the mayors of Taipei and Hong Kong incumbent head of government, said Sheng.

Confident that the Deaflympics Taipei 2009, the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo and the World Expo 2010 Shanghai will be immense business opportunities, Hau has plans to cooperate with the authorities in Shanghai and Hong Kong to promote these events, according to Taipei City government officials.

The Deaflympics Taipei Sept. 5-15, which is currently in Asia for the first time, with a grand opening of the Main Stadium 23rd July and an invitational track and field warm-up meet July 24-25, according to Sheng.

A series of large-scale promotional appearances will also be staged on the eve of the Games, which are about 4,000 athletes from 80 countries in competition with 20 events at 22 venues in Taipei City and Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu counties.

The Deaflympics date back to 1924, when she for the first time in Paris. In 1995 they received the official recognition of the International Olympic Committee and today, 96 national deaf sports federations are members of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf.
