"Jockey Club Mong Tung Wan Hostel | AboutHK.Com - more information about HK"

Swim from the sandy beach

just beyond the hostel gates or walk to the gazetted beach at Pui O.

2) From Pui O take a bus to Cheung Sha and swim from one of the
longest and most beautiful of Hong Kong"s beaches.

3) From Pui O take a bus to Tai O. This is a traditional fishing village that retains much of
its original character and charm despite having to contend with an increasing number of local
and overseas visitors. Of particular interest are the unique stilt houses built out over the
central creek by local fishing families who fiercely resist all attempts to relocate them in
modern utilitarian public housing. Dried sea food is available from street stalls.

4) Whilst in Tai O also undertake the Tai O Wetland Ecotour and learn about the many
fascinating marine creatures that inhabit the area"s extensive mangrove plantations.

5) From Pui O take a bus to Ngong Ping and visit the world"s largest, outdoor Buddha statue.
The site of the Tian Ta Buddha (opening 10:00 hours- 18:00 hours) provides visitors with
a commanding view over the Shek Pik reservoir and to the South Lantau coast beyond and
draws a steady stream of devotees to this upland plateau throughout the year.

6) Also at Ngong Ping is the Po Lin Monastery (opening 09:00 hours -18:00 hours) which is
perhaps the best known of the many monasteries in Hong Kong which together with the Tian
Ta Buddah are the principal attractions in this area. The feeling of tranquility within the
monastery grounds and the fragrance of burning incense sticks is appealing to Buddhists and
non-Buddhists alike.

7) Also from Ngong Ping explore the Buddhist Walk (Chinese Language only) to Tung Chung.

8) Also from Ngong Ping climb the adjacent Lantau Peak. This is not an exercise for the faint
hearted for the almost vertical ancient stone steps leading up to this commanding peak from
the Ngong Ping plateau strain every sinew within one"s legs! It is, however, well worth the
effort for the view from the summit is truly spectacular and on a clear day one can see much
of Lantau and the surrounding seas and islands. Many enthusiasts commence this hike in darkness
in order to reach the peak in time to see the sun rise over the South China Sea.

9) From Pui O take a bus to Mui Wo( Silvermine Bay). This is the principal township on the
Southern side of Lantau Island and has a variety of shops, restaurants supermarkets and banks.
Hikers can walk from here to Tung Chung or to Discovery Bay.

10) Hike from the hostel to Mui Wo (Silvermine Bay). This is an attractive coastal path that
passes through the Chi Ma Wan peninsular and gives uninterrupted
views across the sea to the adjacent islands of Cheung Chau and
Hei Ling Chau.

11) Test your map reading skills over the Pak Fu Tin Orienteering
Trim Course.

12) Climb Lo Yan Shan which is visible to the rear of the hostel. Please check the following
website. (Note: rock climbing is a dangerous sport and the services of a registered coach are
recommended for all participants).

13) Walk the nearby narrow cliff path. For details please refer to the following website (Note:
this activity involves a certain degree of danger and the presence of a registered and experienced
experienced guide is recommended for all participants).
