Hike along the many paths in this part of the Sai Kung County Park

including Stage 1 of the 100km long trans-New Territories Maclehose
Trail and the demanding climb up to the top of Sharp Peak from where
views can be obtained across to Tap Mun island and to extensive stretches
of the territories rugged coast line..

Visit nearby Chek Keng village where soft drinks, beer and simple food can sometime be
obtained from the few villagers remaining in this once thriving fishing and farming community.

See the mangroves along the shoreline approaching Chek Keng village. These coastal mangrove
plantations are ecologically very important to a variety of marine life and provide essential
nourishment and protection for young fish.

Swim on the beautiful and remote Sai Wan and Tai Long Wan beaches. Soft drinks, beer and
simple food are available in the villages of Sai Wan and Ham Tin.

Visit the Government Water Sports Centre at Wong Shek where
regular courses are held (with prior booking) in sailing, kayaking and
waterskiing and from where those with the necessary qualifications
can rent equipment by the day.

From Wong Shek pier take a ferry or kai do to the scenic island of
Tap Mun. This small, off shore island is one of the remotest in Hong Kong and is still occupied
by a few remaining fishing folk. Apart from the interesting village architecture and examples of
daily lifestyle that has remain little changed over generations, there is an attractive temple
dedicated to Tin Hau, patron goddess to fishermen and an important coastal deity in Southern
China. The one remaining restaurant on the island provides visitors with locally raised seafood
as well as simpler noodles or rice dishes.

Enjoy a barbeque in the hostel grounds. Fresh seafood and other necessities may be purchased
in Sai Kung township.
