Xinjiang Goldwind, the Chinese alternative energy company, said Monday that it had decided to cancel its $1.2 billion initial public offering because of “unexpected and excessive market volatility.”

In a filing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the board of Goldwind, a company based in the northwestern province of Xinjiang, said its plans to seek more than 9 billion Hong Kong dollars were “inadvisable.”

The cancellation is not the first this year for the Hong Kong exchange, which saw the real estate manager Swire also cancel plans to go public.
