Hong Kong shares swung back to gains early Thursday, reversing a string of recent declines and helped by a positive finish on Wall Street, with Hang Lung Properties Ltd. and energy producer Cnooc Ltd. leading the way. The Hang Seng Index rose 0.8% to 20,185.64 after falling in 11 of the previous 12 sessions, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index added 1.3% to 11,525.33. Hang Lung rose 1.9% after posting a steep jump in fiscal first-half profits, while Cnooc gained 1.5% after Citigroup upgraded the stock to a buy from sell. China's Shanghai Composite slipped 0.1%, paring its early losses as airline stocks advanced.
