New IBM cloud computing laboratory opens in Hong Kong

IT company IBM announced yesterday the opening of a new Cloud Computing Laboratory in Hong Kong which will support its LotusLive cloud services.

New IBM cloud computing laboratory opens in Hong KongThe company said that the Laboratory is the tenth one world wide and will serve as a development facility for Web 2.0, cloud mail and collaboration.

The company said that it expects the global cloud computing market to grow at a compounded annual rate of 28% from USD47bn in 2008 to USD126bn in 2012, based on various market estimates.

IBM's LotusLive delivers a suite of collaboration and social networking services including email, instant messaging, file-sharing, Web meetings and project management
starting at USD3 per user per month.

The laboratory builds on the email technology and expertise of Outblaze Limited, a Hong Kong-based company whose messaging assets were acquired by IBM earlier this year and incorporated into the Lotus brand of collaboration services. The laboratory now serves as a major development lab for LotusLive, an integrated suite of cloud-based collaboration solutions.

No details of IBM's investment in the laboratory were disclosed.
